What Kind of Competition Do You Want Next?

background image 325

The first Short Story Competition was a success. We had almost 80 entries, and on the grand final more than 5,000 people took the time to cast a vote on their favorite story.

Both competitors and readers sent us several emails mentioning that they loved the competition, and that they were looking forward to the next one.

We will therefore be running another competition soon (probably in November).

Instead of trying to guess what you guys would like to have, however, we though that it would be more sound to ask you directly. Below you will find a poll (RSS and email subscribers might need to visit the website to be able to see the poll) with several possible types of competition (e.g., short story competitions, poetry competitions and so on). You can also add a new answer on the poll if you want to suggest something else.

  1. Essay contest! I’m a nonfiction writer!

I second the motion to abstain from competition during NaNoWriMo. I’m recklessly considering participation this year (reckless because, as I mentioned, I’m a nonfiction writer). I’m sure a lot of other readers are hoping to work on novels during November as well.

  2. Yes, I’m writing a novel in November too! Will have a little time in January before my baby’s born though! ;D
Please, not a poetry competition… or not only a poetry competition anyway!

  3. I tend to agree with the above comments about not having your contest conflict with NaNo, but if you decide to do in November I’ll participate. I’m always up for a good challenge. 🙂

  4. The 500 word short story compn. was very fine indeed. The next should be something similar, but larger, say a two thousand word story. The NaNo requires a much bigger attempt, and your story competition should be an intermediate effort. It could be around two thousand words plus or minus10 to 15 per cent. I also think that January will be a better time.

  5. I would love to see a non fiction contest. I too, enjoy the real slice of life! Non-fiction writers tend to get little credit for what they do.

  6. also, it’s “grand finale” not “grand final”
    =)

and i’d have voted for an essay competition, but 1000 words short story sounds good too

  7. I am a poet.. and, I think a poetry contest would be lovely… I’m just fourteen and I would love to have a little publicity with my poetry… thank you (=
