Default Help with hyphens & figures!!!

I am having trouble writing this sentence. Can anyone help me figure this out? I am in need of the answer within the next two hours. Thanks, Troospace

He has been a two pack-a-day cigarette smoker for the last 40 years or

should I write: He has been a two-pack a day cigarette smoker for 40 years.
