Something that irks me no end is when a writer (and even editors!) gets those wrong.
I breathe a breath.
Not: I BREATH.
I've seen it so many times in books, it makes me want to scream.
Pet peeve. :)

Yup, I've spotted that quite often, usually when someone writes something like: I wouldn't hold your breathe waiting for that to happen.
It's a very bad error, because it shows that someone has not read through what they have written out loud, which is a very basic, not to mention well known technique in proof-reading.
