"Coating companies" or "coatings companies"?

I can't figure out whether the correct spelling for companies producing specific paints is "coating companies" or "coatings companies." A search on the internet revealed both uses; however, "coatings companies" sounds odd to me. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

It should be "coating companies", just as it would be paint companies, biscuit companies, car companies etc.
