please help in using the above phrases (if i am gramatically correct)

which one should be used where

1. 'I am afraid , either'

2. 'I am afraid,both'

so its i believe using the word either and both

eg what should come in this dialogue

A: Which of the two is he taking?
B: I am afraid, _______ (either/both)

I don't understand your question. They don't mean the same thing, so with only the beginning of a sentence no one can tell you which is correct.

Here are some examples. Imagine that my husband John and I have both been invited to a party. I could reply:

I'm afraid either John or I will have to stay at home because we can't get a sitter for the baby.

I'm afraid both John and I will be away on holiday that week.

Note that there is no comma after "afraid" in either example.
