new in need of help

Hi all, Am new here, hoping to pick up a few pointers. I write for myself only but now realize how hard it can be...but I do enjoy it. Problem is, I don't know anyone with the skills to give feedback or proof. Do you advise each other as to how to improve their work? I only write short stories about family.

i obviously cannot speak for everyone on this forum, but as an individual i would be glad to offer any advice as to how improve writing. i'm sure a lot of other members would agree that we try to be as helpful as possible.

Hi Mimi,

Welcome to the forum! When you browse through this forum you will find several examples of short stories, articles, etc., that people posted here. So, take your chances and just post one of your short stories. I am sure you will receive some valuable feedback.

Also, if you enjoy writing, I would recommend you start a blog where you post your stories. Blogs do allow feedbacks, but you can also block them. I personally recommend wordpress[dot]com. It's free of charge and it's a lot of fun to maintain a blog.

I am finding that I coud use some outside opinions in my own writing. At some points I doubt the validity of my writing and would like feedback. I figure that my story of course makes sense to me, but what of to others? This doesn't stop me from plodding along but it casts the shadow of doubt, so I believe feedback is important if difficult to recieve.

I believe, every new writer has doubts and is afraid of negative feedback. I had logged on to another writers' forum and received some brutal responses on some general entries and I didn't even dare to post my writings.

This forum here is not just civil, it is very friendly and reviews are constructive. That's the way it's supposed to be.
