Beginnings. I can never figure out exactly how to start a story. Just describing the character sounds boring to me, jumping right into the story is, in my opinion, a big no-no, and dialogue right at the beginning confuses me as to why they were talking. Any ideas? Hahah

You're not the first, and you certainly won't be the last, to wonder the best way to start. But don't forget, you can always change the start when the story has taken more form. Starting is the thing. Write it down, see where it leads.

The most difficult task in a writing project is to figure out how to write the start of a story.

Rule: The first paragraph is the most important part of a story. If it fails to interest the reader they might not finish reading.

Another rule says that you should provide some hints about the entire story line right in the first paragraph.

For instance, you can write a sentence like:
"I wonder who did it?" thought the Queen.
and you know immediately it's a mystery and involves royalty...;-)
