I have seen today's feed on the above topic, and I would like to provide some suggestions:

The GIMP application is actually a failure. The process of downloading and installing is flawless, but when it starts up before you can use it, it will stop at the 'Fonts' part and will slow down your computer until you call up the Task Manager. I have re-installed it three times and the results have been the same.

Hope the developer can fix this big bug ASAP!

That is your experience.

I have been using for over 1 year, and it does everything I need with images really.

I would never pay $$$ for Adobe Photoshop unless I was a professional designer.

I've never had any problems with GIMP, although I prefer to use it on linux. On windows I prefer use Paint Shop Pro. I have Photoshop but I rarely use it. I bought it as part of the CC2 suite with an educator's licence, so it wat quite cheap. More important was the Acrobat Pro.

Maybe you have too many fonts installed. It happens sometimes, and it may affect other programs as well.

Thank you for reminding me that I have too many fonts installed. It had never occurred to me when I was downloading fancy fonts that are unnecessary for formatting.
