Hi, I am 16 years old and I want to get my book published by 2009 but don't want to go to college to be a writer. Is that possible?

Hey Chris, I think it is possible if you have some talent for writing, and if you are willing to work really hard for it.

Nothing will fall from the sky, and getting a book published (I imagine) is very hard.

If you are willing to put in the work and the commitment, though, I think it is perfectly possible.

And I don't think you need to go to college for that. Just read a lot and try to find a mentor to guide you through.

Ah, and keep hanging in our forum as well :).

ANYONE can be published. There are no limits these days with the advent of self-publishing. As one other poster pointed out, look at Eragon. It was written by a teenager and initially published on lulu.com. I'm published on Lulu. It's a great way to get your name and words in print.

Hi Chris,

First things first -- good luck! And no, you don't need to have a college education to be a writer. (I'm assuming you mean a writer of fiction?)

Hi Chris, why don't you keep on with what you are already doing and also go to college?
The latter is not only about the subject under study but the years of meeting many new people, acquiring more knowledge, building a bigger, firmer foundati0on for your work, than if you do not have the experience of standing on your own two feet and making a success of it.
As a matter of interest check out the writer Daisy Ashford who wrote a resounding success, 'The Visiters', a long time ago. ( yes, that is the correct spelling of her book). She was nine years old when she wrote this book. so, it can be done, it all depends, as they say.
It was even dramatised and shown on British t.v a couple of Christmases ago.
