In my book the main character has a steadily growing following of companions and I have more planned to join. Three of them are definetly main characters, two are just below that and then four are kind of just following along. One of the four may find her way to a more main role later. The other three are kind of fighters sent to help them. I've defined some personality traits for these guys but I find it difficult to incorporate them and have them interacting with the other more important characters. They tend to fall into the background. Sometimes one of these characters will make a comment or two in an attempt to show more of what kind of people they are. At times I feel I am trying to give out an even amount of talking time to main characters. I'm worried this will make things seem forced or generic. I would appreciate some tips on managing large groups of characters.
