Want to invest in a notepad - but have no clue - HELP!

I've dipped a toe(nail) into this before - have always wanted to write but never felt the time had come that I was ready to let the inside out until now - I've tended to to buy little notebooks that I write in for a few days then misplace / leave somewhere / never seem to have to hand - etc etc. I have decided that I need to invest in a mini Notepad / Laptop that I can dedicate to the cause - have work laptop for business but don't want my thoughts and notes to be stored there, big brother is watching and all that!

Can anyone advise me what the best is to get started on? I'm willing to invest upto a 'few' hundred pounds - tis Christmas approaching afterall! I would really appreciate any advice offered that will point me in the write direction - ha ha, but dont worry - comedy isn't my speciality!
