This is a point that always got me curious.

Adding the "that" to the this sentence:

The story [that] I am going to write

is: correct and necessary, correct but redundant, incorrect, or what?

Good question, Daniel.

The short answer is that in some cases the "that" is optional, but that in others it is not. I've long intended a post on this very question.

I guess I'll get busy on it.

Correct but redundant

"That" is not required here unless the complete sentence is stating specific meaning.
